Corporations have more rights than you.

This is an actual letter written by my husband’s friend (they are both lawyers) to a client, explaining why he can’t do anything after his employer fired him for having to get surgery after a car accident.
“This is the grassroots effect of what we get for electing Republicans at all levels. The Republican Supreme Court ( I refer to them as the Supreme CRAP…Corporate Relief Assurance Panel )…some years back confirmed that in Texas, your employer owes you no duty to treat you fairly. Firing you for having an injury is a valuable right which the CRAP has given to the blessed corporations who back Republican causes.
So, at the grassroots level, instead of getting rid of Mexicans, gay marriage and so-called liberal give away programs, you get corporatism. Your Republican legislature and it’s CRAP in Austin is owned by corporations. Welcome to Texas. Keep voting conservative and it will get even better for corporations.
Sorry about the sarcasm, but I now spend a large part of my time explaining to my clients all the rights which are being taken away from them. Texas is an employment at will state. Corporations can fire you for having a bad haircut…just can’t do it if you’re black or gay, or Mormon, but they’ll never say that is the reason.
What has happened to you is regrettable, but it is fast becoming an every man for himself, right wing world. If you have been voting conservative, unfortunately, this is what you get and…even worse, what you deserve. It is very important to look behind the fear in the political campaigns and to know what is happening out there.
We all need to drill deeper and get involved in taking this government back for human beings…and corporations are not people!
